Scripture Christmas Cards: 6 FREE Printable Greetings to Share Christmas Joy

Every year, the Christmas season reminds us of the indescribable gift of Jesus’ birth. One of the simplest ways to share the joyful Christmas story is by sending Scripture Christmas cards. Holiday greetings paired with Christmas Bible verses and seasonal artwork brighten people’s day and remind them of God’s love.

Christian Christmas cards and greetings keep the birth of Jesus Christ at the forefront of holiday celebrations. Scripture passages for religious Christmas cards can include Luke 2 (the Nativity story and angels from the highest heaven declaring peace on earth), Isaiah 9:6 (Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father…), John 3:16 (God gave his only begotten Son…), James 1:17 (Every good and perfect gift is from…the Father of the heavenly lights…), and more.

Even in the digital age, a printable religious Christmas card is a heartfelt way to wish people a Merry Christmas. People long for connection and want to know that their church family remembers them. This is especially true for recipients who are homebound, alone, or hurting. Christmas verses remind people of all ages that Jesus Christ came to earth to save sinners, offering grace and the gift of eternal life

5 Ideas for Using Scripture Christmas Cards

Here are five cheerful ideas for using Christmas cards, plus bonus suggestions for your ministry:

1. Include cards on tasty treats.

Baking is a favorite Christmas pastime for many families, so put those kitchen skills to good use. Recruit eager cookie makers to whip up batches of seasonal treats. Cover plates of goodies with colorful plastic wrap. On top, tie or tape a religious Christmas card featuring favorite Christmas Bible verses.

Leave the plates on people’s doorsteps as a sweet surprise or call ahead to arrange a delivery. The combination of a homemade treat and a Christmas greeting from the heart will make people smile.

Cover plates of goodies with colorful plastic wrap, and then tie or tape a Christmas Card on top. Leave plates outside people’s doors to surprise them, or call to inquire about the best delivery time and method.

2. Stuff stockings with Christmas surprises.

Let people know they’re on your congregation’s “nice list” by distributing gift-filled stockings. Fill red felt socks or decorated paper bags with nonperishable snacks, Christmas candy, and other seasonal treats. Tuck a Scripture card inside or tie one to the stocking with ribbon threaded through a punched hole.

Church Staff Gift Stockings

This is a wonderful project for small groups, Sunday school classes, or families. And it’s a great way to wish a blessed Christmas to neighbors, homebound members, and hospital patients.

3. Share the sounds of the season.

Hearing familiar carols during the Christmas season points people straight to the good news of Jesus’ birth. Gather a group of carolers to sing while delivering cards and treats to neighbors, homebound folks, or care facility residents.

Ask a nursing home or assisted living community if a group might sing in a lobby. Leave a stack of pre-signed Christmas cards for staff to hand out afterward. That way, the goodwill continues even after the singing stops. For residents far from family, songs and cards are especially meaningful.

4. Keep children engaged at Christmas.

Reaching kids with the truth of Christ’s birth is a special privilege. If your church sends home Advent-in-a-box devotionals or Sunday school newsletters, include a Christmas card addressed to each child. Seeing their name on an envelope makes kids feel like a valued part of the church family.

Pair the card with a Christmas coloring pages or a kid-friendly puzzle. These activities reinforce the true meaning of the season in a fun format.

5. Add a small surprise to each Christmas card.

Before sealing the envelope, tuck in a little extra treat that will fall out when the recipient opens the envelope. Budget-friendly options for adding delight and surprise include nativity-scene stickers, a magnet, or a Christmas tree bookmark. Small touches transform an ordinary card into a keepsake gift that recipients will enjoy beyond the holidays.

More Ideas for Using Scripture Christmas Cards

  • Pair a card with a candle. For a Christmas-themed visitor gift, include a small votive or tea light with a Scripture card. Add a note or Bible verse such as “Let your light shine” or “Jesus is the light of my salvation.”
  • Host a card-writing party. Gather church members to write personal notes inside preprinted cards. This is a great way to build community while blessing others.
  • Send cards to people who serve. Remember first responders, medical staff, teachers, and military families connected to your church. A Christmas card with an encouraging verse and note of thanks is extra meaningful in December.
  • Include a card with year-end giving reminders or statements. When you mail stewardship letters at year’s end, add a Scripture Christmas card to thank people for their generosity.

Wrapping It Up

No matter how you use them, Scripture Christmas cards are a beloved tradition. And using free printable greeting cards makes it easy to proclaim, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14, KJV).

So print a batch of Scripture Christmas cards that share the joyful news of Christ’s birth. Whether you mail the cards or include them with gifts, you’ll remind people that Christ is born and is the way to heaven.
